Description

Nutritionally Improved Straw, more commonly known as NIS is a 6mm UK produced straw based pellet. The nutritional value of the straw is increased by particle size reduction then Alkali treatment and finally Extrusion by pelleting. Chopping and milling increases the surface area available for the action of the sodium hydroxide and permits greater improved access for rumen micro-organisms when NIS is fed.

Nutritional Attributes

Nutritionally Improved Straw has the following benefits: Complementary feed providing functional fibre. Forage extender and Digestive Aid. Economical source of energy from Digestible Fibre and a Rumen conditioner for cows. Availability of Sodium Bicarbonate can improve the utilisation of all the raw materials in the diet. Can promote improvements in DMI milk yield and milk quality particularly Butterfat. Alkaline pH. Helps balance excess acidity from grass and maize silage. Helps combat acidosis and helps prevent laminitis.

Storage and Handling

NIS is available in bulk loads and should be stored in a cool, dry environment with a hard clean floor base and preferably under cover. The recommended maximum storage period for the product is 2 months, but account has to be taken of ambient conditions.
