Description

Maize Gluten Feed is a by-product of the wet manufacture of maize starch. It is composed of bran and gluten, to which the broken maize obtained from screening at an amount no greater than 15% of the product and / or the residues of the steeping liquor used for the production of alcohol or other starch-derived products, may be added. The product may also include residues from the oil extraction of maize germs obtained also by a wet process.

Nutritional Attributes

Maize Gluten Feed is a balanced feed with good levels of protein, starch and fibre. Varies in colour from light golden to dark brown indicating overheating during manufacture and can be a mixutre of meal/pellets depending on source. Starch and protein very degradable and fibre is quickly fermentable due to short length from milling. Low calcium to phosphorus ratio (low in calcium, high in phosphorus).

Storage and Handling

Maize Gluten Feed is available in bulk loads and should be stored in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area. Shelf life 2 years from production in dry conditions. Material to have been stored in compliance with the MAFF Code of Practice for the Control of Salmonella.
