Caustic wheat

Article number: A08010

Description

Caustic wheat is wheat treated with caustic soda. The sodium hydroxide coating acts as an alkaili to the acids produced in the rumen, therefore helping to promote stable rumen conditions, which is essential for efficient feed utilisation, reducing the risks associated with feeding high levels of rolled cereals or acid silages. The reduction in acid loading in the rumen in turn leads to increased milk yield and quality in dairy cows and increased live weight gain and feed conversion in beef cattle. Introduce gradually over 7-14 days ensuring that sufficient long fibre is present in the diet.

Nutritional Attributes

Caustic Wheat is a moist feed of high energy and a high starch content which also provides a strong level of slowley degradable starch (high amount of bypass starch). It is an alkali product which will support the reduction of acidosis risk, whilst providing high starch and energy to the ration.

Storage and Handling

Feeding of Caustic Wheat can commence five days after treatment. All product supplied by ForFarmers will be fit and ready to feed on delivery. Please allow five working days from placing the order to delivery. Once tipped onto a clean surface. Caustic wheat should be used within 3 weeks. Animals should have constant access to clean water.
